Review from a Transgressive Fiction Fan
My forever favorite Graham Greene. I think, it was the 6th (? probably more) re-read, audio version.
Saw both movies, totally no likey.
The Quiet American has everything – it’s hardcore historic thriller, a spy novel, deep cultural insight, touching melodrama, tragedy, with plethora of moral dilemmas, sacrifice of innocents and a loss of innocence, murder for the greater good, naivete and deep cynicism.
The best.
“Insightful” Review from a Mainstream Reader
abandoned midway. I expected to like Greene’s writing style because I appreciate other authors who’d written within the same time period and in a very similar old fashioned, flat manner. The writing bored me and the story bored me. The author has set no ground on which one may connect with the characters, they were all pretty emotionally distant and I didn’t care for them as much as I should have. A disappointment.
