Review from a Transgressive Fiction Fan

It’s freaky and twisted. It’s terrifying and compelling. You’ll sit down, grab the book and read it until you’ve reached the last page. No kiddings here. I read this in one sitting, no pause for water, no pause whatsoever. It’ll creep you out and fascinate you and you’ll connect with the story on many levels. I did. I connected with the character and I’m still having nightmares about it.

“Insightful” Review from a Mainstream Reader

A coworker loaned me this book which he picked up in an airport bookstore, saying it was a quick read.

It was. I found it a pastiche of cliched small-town characters. It’s in vogue nowadays to have small towns full of deep, dark, terrible secrets. The book was full of unlikable characters (including the narrator) meaningless sex, vomit, and purple prose.

It was apparently a nominee for a Best First Novel award. My guess is it did not win. I honestly think the only reason this book saw light was the author happens to be a writer for Entertainment Weekly.
