Review from a Transgressive Fiction Fan

Great book. Klosterman reminds me of my boyfriend Jeff. Sharp, witty, sarcastic and filled with insight into modern culture. Each chapter is a different topic that Klosterman just rails into. From things like the Sims, to Pamela Anderson, to drugs, Klosterman gives his perspective on how these things are shaping us into the piece-of-shit, lazy, and drug-addled Americans the rest of the world knows us to be. It reads like a bunch of essays, so there’s no real plot, theme, or motif here. But I always appreciate an intelligent rant. I assume Bill Hicks and Chuck Klosterman would have gotten along real well.

“Insightful” Review from a Mainstream Reader

I know I’m supposed to be won over by Chuck Klosterman’s supposedly keen and cutting insight into pop culture and therefore the modern human experience, but I really just felt like I was at a really dull party and cornered by some annoyingly pseudo-intellectual guy whose sole enjoyment is to contradict and mock anything anyone says just to hear himself talk.
