antastic and original. Lyrical, lush, dark, and deep. Moves fast and furious even when the main character is just sitting on his bed thinking. How I’d love to call just one of the pargraphs in this story my own. The tone and prose alone is worth the price of admission, and the story keeps you turning pages until the end. I’ve heard this story reads a bit like Sin City, and hellz yeah, you can hear the Sin City narrator as you read. But there is something much more earnest here. Ends on a perfect note. If you’re fan of True Detective, you’ll love this.
“Insightful” Review from a Mainstream Reader
While well written and literate, I could not stand this book. It was extremely depressing, violent and disgusting. I would never describe myself as a prude, but I found myself cringing throughout the book. If I had not committed myself to reading and reviewing it, I would have tossed it aside very quickly. I guess a main reason for this is that I read primarily to escape. This book is not “escape” reading.
The ending was very sad. I really can’t say that I thought this novel could have had a happy ending, though. It actually concluded in the best possible way for the protagonist of the novel.
