This novel about a crazy animal hoarder could have gone wrong in so many ways. It is a surprising tribute to Vicki Hendricks strengths and sensitivities that it does not. Probably a little too weird to be sold as “chick lit” this will definitely appeal to anyone who has ever been inclined to adopt every dog at the shelter or open a rescue. Hendricks doesn’t tiptoe around the ideas of mental illness or make her characters into cute crazy people. They are sympathetic, needy, desperate and deeply human. I enjoyed this story a lot.
